My name is Anna Marie Bryant. My adventure into the world of art began when
I was a little
girl. I was always encouraged to create my own lines, not follow those someone
else laid down.
I've always had a deep respect and love of horses, spending as much
time in the saddle as I could as a child and young adult. Then came a
family of my own and my interest in horses and art were tucked away
for a while...until May of 2006, when I saw Barbaro blaze to the finish
in the Kentucky Derby. While we all know how his next race ended, for
me, it was a new start. I followed Barbaro's story from beginning
to end, and have been amazed by his strength and determination to heal
from his injuries. I hoped, wished, and prayed, like so many others.
My heart was broken when he lost his battle, and I shed many tears
that day.
Barbaro left quite a legacy...and that lives on. His influence has
led us humanfolk to a deeper awareness of myriad issues which face
today's horses. In honor of his strength and determination, I have
combined my love of art with my love of him and his brothers and
sisters, and create drawings in honor of his memory, and to draw
attention to the plight of
all horses, be they beautiful, powerful Thoroughbred racehorses or
humble, tired workhorses.
I've been given the honor of being licensed by Barbaro's owners to
use these works of art to benefit the Barbaro Fund and the Laminitis
Fund. My hope is that you will enjoy your art as
much as I enjoyed creating it.*
Today, just two short years later, I am tickled to share with you Mardi Gras Dancer. Mardi Gras is an OTTB (Off Track Thoroughbred) adopted through LOPE and a very special character in my life. For now, here's his photo...more to come!
